I just joined the ACLU. Why did it take me so long?

I woke up this morning and realized I wasn't a member. Why the hell wasn't I?

We're going to need these folks more and more in the coming years. Even if we turn Congress around in 2006; even if we continue to make progress at the state and local level; even if the US public suddenly wakes up and realizes exactly what nomination of turds like Alberto Gonzales and Michael Chertoff mean for our prospects -- there's going to be a lag of a few years before the Bush momentum runs out.

And during that time, there's going to be erosion of our civil liberties, unless the organizations who are our best and brightest hope of pushing back are well-funded.

So, why the hell aren't you?
