The blogosphere is coming for Joe LiebermanMarkos comes out in favor of a primary challenge
against Red Joe.
The original article is here:
I have a policy of neutrality for primary elections, but would make an exception in this case. I don't doubt that a legitimate primary challenger to Lieberman would garner serious netroot support. And if what I hear is true, there are serious efforts underway to draft such a person. Sounds like a great idea; I detest Lieberman for his pandering to the Republicans in general and Bush in particular, and I still resent him for the drag he put on the 2000 presidential ticket. What are the challenges involved in challenging a sitting senator in a primary? Presumably, Red Joe will be good at raising money the old-fashioned way (e.g., from HNWIs). Will his kung fu be strong enough to fight off a concerted national small-donor effort, organized over the internet? Is there any danger of the GOP wading in to prop him up if he's facing a serious primary challenge? Or is it more likely that they'll simply let the chips fall where they may and earmark a successful primary challenger as eminently beatable in the general election? Is there any danger that Red Joe will cross over to the Dark Side if Democrats around the country turn against him en masse? Posted: Wed - January 26, 2005 at 01:55 PM | Category: | | | |
