New category: Atheist Sunday

As I do every Sunday, I'm waking up late and enjoying a big cup of coffee and a healthy dose of California sunshine.

I'm reflecting on the week past and the week ahead, on my life and my dear ones and the world in general.

And I'm not worshipping anyone or anything.

I've been what the fundies call an "avowed atheist" since I was seventeen.

It's as important a part of my life as science or political liberalism, but until recently I hadn't been moved to write about it. But increasingly I've been stirred to express myself, to push back against the encroaching darkness of religiosity and dominionism, to say, here I stand and can do no other. I know it won't change the world — does it come as any surprise that a liberal molecular biologist from the Bay Area is an atheist — but I feel good about putting my thoughts down in the blog.

So I bring you Atheist Sunday. Once a week for now, but if I find myself moved by the spirit, I might start making entries daily.

Scroll onward.
