Boxer: Fill prescriptions on demandI realized I've been ignoring two of the most
important figures in California
politics.
Just in case you've been wondering what's going on with your fiery liberal Democratic Senator (as opposed to the staid conservative Democratic Senator, not that I've been covering her either): Barbara Boxer is fighting the good fight in DC, living up to every label the right wing can pin on her. Yesterday's move is vintage Boxer and very
timely, given that some of the nation's pharmacists have decided to volunteer as
footsoldiers in the administration's war on women.
Senator Boxer Proposes Bill to Require Pharmacies to Fill All Prescriptions (Feminist.org) Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) introduced legislation to protect women's access to contraception in response to recent reports that women seeking birth control or emergency contraception (EC) have been turned away by pharmacists. The legislation would require all pharmacies to fill all prescriptions or refer customers to someone who will, despite pharmacists’ so-called religious or ethical objections to the nature of the prescription, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Women in a dozen states have reportedly been turned away by pharmacists, and at times, even lectured. Good one, Senator. More about Boxer soon – I really want to start doing more on national issues – and something about Feinstein just as soon as she does something.
