The long shadow of Coingate

A financial scandal that is rocking the Ohio GOP has ramifications in California as well:

Some of the dirty money made it into Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign coffers.

"Coingate" has been covered extensively elsewhere, but there's a great timeline at BloggerRadio, to which I would refer those interested in detailed background.

Coin dealer contributions went to Schwarzenegger
(WKYC) A coin dealer under state and federal investigation didn't limit his numerous campaign contributions to Ohio politicians.

Campaign finance records show that Thomas Noe made campaign contributions to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and a South Dakota congressional candidate.

The records show Noe contributed 10 thousand dollars to Schwarzenegger's California Recovery Team committee last year.

This is either a non-story (Schwarzenegger gives the money back quietly) or a huge one, depending on how high of a profile the coin story assumes in the national press. I had been following the story indifferently — what a shock, the GOP is involved in dirty financial dealings — but now that there's a California angle, I'll be paying closer attention.
