Prop 77 back on ballot? The mind reels. I just posted this morning about Prop 77 (the redistricting
initiative) getting struck from the ballot.
From the Sacramento Bee:
An appellate court Monday suspended a Sacramento judge's order to remove the Proposition 77 redistricting measure from the November ballot. The action by the 3rd District Court of Appeal allowed a required July 26-Aug. 15 public ballot review to continue for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's initiative to change the way legislative district boundaries are drawn. The initiative was removed from the ballot last week after a lawsuit by state Attorney General Bill Lockyer. The text of the proposition circulated for signature-gathering differed from the one submitted to his office months ago. I had thought that the Third Appellate Court wasn't going to even hear arguments about this until Friday; I'm not sure what the upshot of the more rapid decision (and reinstatement) really is, as it doesn't seem to have overturned the lower court's ruling about the discrepancies between the circulated (petition) and ballot versions of the initiative. Watching for further developments... Posted: Mon - August 1, 2005 at 11:07 AM | Category: | | | |
