The allegedly pro-choice Governor of California has just come out in favor of Proposition 73, a ballot measure that would make abortion illegal for minors unless their parents were notified in advance.

Prop 73, which was placed on the ballot by anti-abortion activists who have no intention of stopping with parental notification, is well outside the "moderate Republican" brand that Schwarzenegger once sported effortlessly and would now love to reclaim.

Is it possible that his putative moderation is leading to so much "RINO" ("Republican In Name Only") criticism from the right wing of the GOP that he's actually running right to shore up his base?

It would certainly be consistent with his announcement of his intention to veto a same-sex marriage bill...and with the company he keeps.
