Multiple polls confirm Arnold's popularity drop

A California news station's survey confirms the results of the San Jose State University poll (view as PDF) that's been getting press this week.

Polls Show Honeymoon Over for Schwarzenegger
(KXTV) It appears that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger faces a sophomore slump in the second year of his term. According to a News10/SurveyUSA poll, less than half of Californians approve of his performance as governor.

The poll found only 42 percent of Californians think Schwarzenegger is doing a good or excellent job. That figure is in agreement with another poll conducted last week by San Jose State University, which found Schwarzenegger's approval rating was just 43 percent among all adults, a 10-point decline from January.

"The honeymoon is over," said the Center for California Studies' Tim Hodson of the governor's relationship with the public and the media. "Now Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be looked at the same ways as other politicians are."

Now if we can just manage to not treat this like a permanent state of affairs, and continue to push the advantage. The reversal was fairly rapid, and I imagine that a recovery could be just as rapid if we in the opposition start to rest on our laurels. Especially when a success is due to one's opponent's blunders, one cannot afford to take anything for granted.

As a chess grandmaster once said, a game is won by the player who makes the second-to-last mistake.

It's way too early to imagine that the last mistake has been made in this game.
