The cat's out of the bag: Election 2005 is ONWhile it will come as no surprise to anyone who's
been reading this blog, Schwarzenegger has leaked that he's definitely going to
announce a special election for the fall of 2005.
From Sac Bee columnist Dan Weintraub's blog:
It's been the worst-kept secret in Sacramento for weeks (months?), but now it's not even that. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed last night that he will call a special election for this November and will issue the proclamation on Monday. He let the very obvious cat out the bag during informal comments to cartoonists from around the nation gathered in Sacramento for their annual convention. One of the reasons why this was inevitable: Schwarzenegger's base is getting really excited about this prospect, and if he had somehow negotiated his way out of the special election, it would devastate his core supporters and wreck his credibility. Pressure for special election Conservatives say backing off now is not an option (San Francisco Chronicle) Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's push for a special election has fired up California conservatives to such an extent that a retreat now could be devastating to the governor's political future and to his party, Republican grassroots activists and conservative leaders warn. These folks are putting a lot of stock in the special election, and I imagine that once the formal announcement gets made on Monday, their money will start pouring in just as fast as the dollars of their red-state cronies. Get ready; the storm is coming. I think we're up for it but we have to be prepared. Posted: Fri - June 10, 2005 at 08:10 AM | Category: | | | |
