(San Francisco Chronicle) State Controller Steve Westly has just pumped $10 million of his own money into his still-undeclared campaign for governor -- serving notice to fellow Democrat Phil Angelides that he has every intention of competing big time for the party's nomination next year.

"This is just the first,'' said Westly's campaign manager, Jude Barry. "We know we are going to have the resources to win -- and probably more than Phil.'' ...

ampaign spending reports are now expected to show that Westly has $12 million for his campaign, including $2 million that he raised when he was figuring on running for re-election as controller.

By comparison, Angelides, in his last semiannual spending report filed in December, reported having about $14 million on hand. Since then, according to late filing with the secretary of state's office, he's raised an additonal $825,000.
