Support Netflix, support Schwarzenegger?

This is pretty sad, given how much I like Netflix and how little I like the special election (and in particular Governor Schwarzenegger's redistricting ballot initiative).

From BuyBlue, org (it's an amalgamated quote from an LA Times article and the BuyBlue blogger):
"Reed Hastings, chairman of the movie rental company Netflix, reported Monday that he gave $200,000 to support the proposal to redraw legislative boundaries — an idea opposed by Democrats, who control the Legislature, and by many Republican legislators. Hastings said in an e-mail that he gave the money in hopes that the measure would open the way for the election of more moderate legislators.

Schwarzenegger nominated Hastings, a Democrat, to the state Board of Education, but the Senate rejected his nomination earlier this year. Hastings said the rejection had nothing to do with his decision to donate the $200,000."

Oh, of course not.

Netflix is rated 72% blue on Buyblue. Mr. Hastings gave $2,000 to Howard Dean, $4,000 to Barbara Boxer, $2,000 to Solidarity PAC, and $5,000 to the Republican CARE PAC in the 2003-2004 election cycle. And then he gave $200,000 to redistrict California for the GOP.

What the hell happened to Reed Hastings? From $2,000 to Dean in 2000 to a hundred times that much for a Republican ballot initiative four years later?

Guess I'll be spending more time at my local library or roof-and-shingles video store.
